Skin Treatment with Salt Therapy
Salt and your skin
Your skin is the very “outer layer” of who you are. Not only is your skin exposed to outside forces every single day, e.g. environmental pollutants, chemicals, toxins, it is also the most vital organ for eliminating toxins. We do this by sweating. Most people don’t realise that their skin is the largest organ of their body and yet it’s one of the most mistreated, so you need to take care of it as best you can.
Some of us are lucky and have little or no skin irritations and never really think about what we put on our skin. For those who suffer from eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis or persistent rashes, constant itchy skin can be extremely painful, red, sore and frustrating, along with the embarrassment of having this skin condition.
The wonderful naturally found healing properties of salt can help. Salt’s natural anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory properties help reduce the inflammation and redness in the skin. Salt Therapy doesn’t sting like saltwater can if you have open wounds; it’s very soft and gentle as the salt is dry and very fine. Salt also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, so this helps remove bacteria and fungus that can go onto causing rash and irritations. It will also keep your skin nice and soft.
Your skin loves salt!
We have a variety of salt to bathe in at The Salt Spot or try creating your own – it’s easy, inexpensive and fun.
Salt Baths – A swim in the ocean always feels great, however not all of us can get there and in winter it’s a little chilly. A relaxing salt bath is a great alternative. Combine natural salt with some magnesium salts and you will not only be cleaning your skin, the magnesium will also help relax your muscles. Add in your favourite essential oil for that added personal touch.
Salt Scrubs – These are great to clean toxins and dead skin off. Just rub a very fine natural salt all over your skin in the shower and rinse off. Add a mix of essential oils and a plant based carrier oil (e.g.: jojoba, almond, grape seed) for that extra treat. The oils will leave your skin really soft and smelling beautiful.
Salt Soap – We don’t always have time to have a bath and make salt scrubs but we can still benefit from salt with salt soap. Wrap the salt soap in a face cloth and wash yourself, rinse off and your skin will be nice and clean. Do not use soap bars directly on the skin. Salt soaps can be purchased at The Salt Spot, you can’t really make these.
Whilst Salt Therapy is great for relieving skin conditions, we also know that combining at home treatment and natural skincare goes a long way to long lasting relief and ongoing maintenance. We love to keep it natural, and unfortunately many products in the market are laden with chemicals and on sensitive skin this can over time cause more harm than good.
I’ve searched and tested many products with many different clients with mild to severe cases of eczema and psoriasis. I’ve found two products that I personally love and so do my clients – both are naturally based of the highest quality ingredients. We have seen some great results and even better had great relief from itchy, irritated skin and rashes.
